A fascinating spy ?lm, based on real events. Colonel Ryszard Kukliński, deputy chief of operations of the General Staff of Polish Armed Forces, party to all the secrets of the Warsaw Pact, became a CIA informant and thus a key player (albeit invisible) in the Cold War. Between 1971 and 1981, Kukliński provided the West with over 40,000 pages of secret documents, including plans for introducing martial law in Poland.
The screenplay was written based on previously-unreleased materials from the archives of Poland's Institute of National Remembrance, CIA documents, and accounts of surviving eye witnesses, including David Forden, Kukliński's CIA handler.
