On the 28th of October, the world commemorates the anniversary of the first showing of Emile Reynaud’s animation “Theatre Optique” in Grevin Museum in Paris.. The art of animation will be celebrated for the eleventh time by the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA), which unites over 5000 filmmakers from all over the world. In Poland, the Animation Day will be honoured for the third time and all the festivities will take place from 27th till 31st of October.
The International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) celebrates the International Animation Day from 2002. On that occasion, from India to Korea, through Brazil, Mexico and the USA, film screenings, exhibitions and seminars take place. The date, the 28th of October, is not coincidental as in 1892, in Grevin Museum in Paris, the very first show of “Theatre Optique” by Emile Reynaud was presented.
In Poland celebrations of the International Animation Day have only been taking place for three years. Major cities in the country - Warsaw, Cracow, Wrocław and Łódź participate in the festivities. As part of the celebration, the organisers will present the newest Polish animations as well as films from all over the world, i.a. from Australia, Brazil, France, India, Germany, Russia and the USA, which were selected by members of the ASIFA association. The coordinator of the nationwide festivities is ASIFA Association Poland.
