The 3rd edition of the Play Poland Film Festival – a feast of Polish cinema abroad starts soon. During 3 months of the Festival events the Polish cinema will be presented in cultural centers of several British cities and in Oslo, Ottawa and Shanghai as well! One of our partners is Meow Studios located in Edinburgh, where ‘New Horizons and Platige Image Animations’ screenings and exhibitions of three talented Polish graphics – Ewa Bińczyk, Igor Myszkiewicz and Maja Muciek are going to take place. A drawing card of the event will be workshops led by Andrzej Pągowski.

We would like to kindly invite you to Meow Studios on the second day of the Festival, 4th October 2013, for the meeting with Andrzej Pągowski. The event is going to start at 3 pm and it will be a great opportunity to talk with the master, to listen to the lectures about ‘The Polish School of Posters’ and about ‘Film Poster Creation’. Participants will have an opportunity to work under the guidance of Andrzej Pągowski, who is going to lead the workshops on the subject of the poster creation. The second part of workshops takes place on the next day, also at 3 pm, and the event is going to be officially closed with the screening of “Druga strona plakatu” (‘Behind the poster’) by Marcin Latałło. The documentary will focus on a phenomenon of the Polish School of Posters – a group of artists, who despite the obstacles connected with a specific political situation, gained a worldwide reputation and appreciation and in this context this film tells the turbulent history of Poland and Polish citizens.

Graphic exhibitions

On the same day – 4th October, but at 6 pm, also in Meow Studios takes place an opening of graphic exhibitions by Ewa Bińczyk – a post-graduate student at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, Igor Myszkiewicz – who graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts at the University Zielona Góra and Maja Muciek – who finished Painting at the University of Zielona Góra. Every artist mentioned has his unique style, but all of them are intrigued by the human subconscious and uncontrolled processes, which happen there - from colourful imaginations to nightmares. The exhibition ends on 14th October.

Films and animations

During the next days of the Festival – 6th, 8th, 10th and 18th October – the screenings of short animations and feature films take place in Meow Studios. We get off to a good start with such animations by Platige Image as: ‘Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings’, ‘Cyberpunk 2077’, the whole series of ‘Move Your Imagination’, ‘The Animated History of Poland’, or ‘Grunwald. Battle of sescentenary’. They all have caused a huge furore in Poland and abroad thanks to the high quality of all the productions and also the educational values connected with attractive visual effects. After that O!PLA Across the Borders – the propositions of the Play Poland Film Festval’s new partner are going to be presented. What is more, there will be a moving documentary “Eksmisja” (‘Resettlement’) by Filip Antoni Malinowski that tells a story of an elderly couple who have to cope with adversities and “Mechanizm obronny” (‘Defense Mechanism’) by Dominik Matwiejczyk that exposes a problem of Polish soldiers’ attendance in the Iraq war and the evoked trauma .

3rd floor 86-92 Causewayside, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH9 1PY – it is the place where every Play Poland Festival participant should be!
