Szymon is thirty years old, has a girlfriend with whom he’s not head over heels in love and a life which could be successful. Then comes a birthday. His father’s, a man who was once ‘champion of the world’ to his son and is now losing the final vestiges of his greatness. It opens Szymon’s eyes to the fact that he is becoming more and more like his father and that, if nothing happens, then catastrophe will occur. "The Birthday" is an irony-filled adaptation of Etgar Keret’s short story “World Champion” exploring how difficult it is to grow up and why it is worth trying. This is also a story about parents who cease to be authorities and become people. And about violence, which sometimes can be healing.
